About Us

Merhba! - Welcome to Malta!
Meet your local connection, the enthusiastic team of EC Meetings for this dynamic Mediterranean island!
Being residents of Malta and having great knowledge about our island, we are pleased to provide travellers with any information needed in order to plan their perfect trip to Malta and her sister islands.
Up to now Malta has been promoted as a beach holiday or incentive trip destination without actually promoting its rich culture, great history and the beautiful environment to be explored. Therefore, we decided that we wanted to head into another dimension and promote Malta in a different and unique way.
When we came across whl.travel, this turned out to be the perfect opportunity to promote Malta in this distinctive way. We strongly believe in WHL's values of respect for the cultural, socio-economic and environmental aspects of tourism destinations. The organization's mission to offer a unique online booking service to travellers by taking these values into account when promoting our beautiful Mediterranean island is very much in line with out way of thinking and doing things. As sustainable tourism is reaching great importance in today's global society, we are incredibly keen to contributie to this phenomenon by the preservation of our local culture and natural environment.
Who are we and what do we do?
EC Meetings is a young, energetic and fresh Destination Management Company, set up in 2001 by Mark Gatt and Gabby Larsson and currently consisting of six passionate employees. The vision we started off with was to offer a unique DMC service, fired by the passion to do things better. Despite the high level of competition, a unique strategic vision and a commitment to hard work, ensured the success that we as a company enjoy today. We offer transfers, accommodation, teambuilding, audio visual equipment, leisure activities and conferences by means of tailor made programs.
As a DMC, EC Meetings avoids taking short cuts and focuses on the details throughout every step of the way. Our aim is to create a program that is tailor-made to your requirements and objectives, securing our position as the local leaders in creative destination management whilst consistently delivering the highest levels of customer satisfaction and return on investment.
At EC Meetings we provide a full event management service, from the conception of creative event themes all the way down to the finest detail; and whilst we're passionate about coming up with original and innovative ideas we're completely nuts about logistics and leave no stone unturned in the services that we offer.
Meet the team

Mark Gatt
Mark is the Managing Director of EC Meetings and started working in the tourism industry at the age of 16 when working as a pool boy in a beach lido. Soon after, he was a group leader for language students, a bartender and started studying hotel school. After his degree in hotel management he worked in a number of hotels in various departments, both locally and overseas. He then went on to become a sales manager for a major 5 star hotel in Malta and decided to start his own business in the incentive sector in 2001. He started EC Meeting as he believes that working in this sector gives you scope for creativity and he believes that in this way EC Meetings has more control over the visitor's experience to Malta.
Jenny Galea
Jenny is an Account Manager and first spent four years reading for a degree in B. Psychology (Hons). Throughout her years at university she worked as a freelance hostess for various events and occasions. After university she spent some time travelling and joined the team of EC Meetings in 2006.

She has worked as a tourist representative for one of the leading tourist companies in Malta for a good number of years. She has owned and managed an antique shop, where she attended many fairs overseas, gaining experience in both wholesaling and retailing. Later she worked in sales in the real estate and advertising industry. She has also gained great experience while working as an assistant to the co producer on a film locally while being a PA to a well known actor in Mexico. She started with EC Meetings in 2007.

His hands-on background in bars, restaurants, & conference and events management lead him to take a further step in his career where he joined EC meetings in February 2011 and is currently working as an Events Manager.
Liam Caruana
Event Manager. Liam is one of the latest additions to the team and has had great experience working in the tourism industry as an Event Coordinator at a 5* Hotel in Malta. At times he can be a perfectionist, but in this job that’s a great trait for him to have. He is also very organised and creative, and his outgoing character has helped him fit in to the team like a glove.
What we are planning to do to promote sustainable tourism in Malta
First of all, we implement our own sustainable measurements within the office. Internally we recycle all waste and use low energy lighting. For the team building market we have started to propose activities with minimum impact on the environment such as building a kite out of recycled paper and competing against other teams using only wind energy. We have also started promoting an unplugged night were the venue is lit up with candles and all music played is unplugged.
By means of working together with whl.travel we want to start creating a voice for sustainability on our islands. We intend to do this by promoting green properties and organizing sustainable activities; we are giving these suppliers the potential to grow, develop their service and/or product and have a better impact on our environment whilst protecting and enhancing needs of our future travelers. Our main areas of interest are environmental - we would like to preserve the natural resources, as these are already scarce enough on this island. Socio-economically as we would like to ensure viable, long-term economic operations, providing benefits to all stakeholders that are moderately distributed, including stable employment and income-earning opportunities for the local community.
Besides the beautiful scenery of the island we believe that Malta's rich history is one thing to be proud of. Malta has adopted the Neolithic culture and has been inhabited and conquered by the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans and Arabs and this gives us a rich culture which can be felt within a few minutes of stepping on the island.
We are proud of the fact that a country with such few natural resources, has a vibrant economy, is part of the EU, has its own language and has maintained many past traditions and together as a team we guarantee a unique and memorable stay when booking with maltahotels.com!
